Meeting Your First Recruiter

Throughout the process of enlisting, the recruiter is your new best frient. He is the person who will provide you with guidance, advice, and will also prepare you for the Recruit Training and Boot Camp. Your recruiter will dicuss what it is like to be an active duty Sailor or Officer and what career options you have.

Navy RecruiterNot only will they help you adjust to the Navy life, they will also assist your family.  While in the DEP, they will serve as a “role model” and assist you in completing the required military courses.

While you may be nervous the first time you go to see a recrutier, remember that you are unique. What accomplishments, experiences and personal qualities do you offer that will give you an edge above others with similar job titles, employment history and education?

Communicate your distinctive success stories to get noticed by recruiters. Listen to their advice but never forget that thier job is to "make" you want to join. Your recruiter is more likely to highlight the BEST aspects of the Navy Life and is less likely to be straightforward about the WORST aspects of serving in the military.

Answer all questions honestly and directly, hold your recruiter to the same standard. Don't lead them in one direction and pull them in another.

Make it clear that joining is very important to you. Let them know that you want to be there, not that you want to be "tricked" or "forced" into making a decision that may not be right for you..

Ask any questions that you have and get as much litature as possible. Most importantly, go home and THINK IT OVER for awhile. Don't just jump in with both feet.

Remember that even though they are there help you, they are not always upfront about what you will endure during boot camp.

Navy Classifier

Once you have taken the necessary entry level tests, and passed them; you will meet with a Navy Classifier. They will enter your scores in a computer and finds out what jobs are avaliable to you based on your score.

A Navy Classifier is the only person who can offer you a job and put it into writing. They can only offer you jobs and ship-outs dates that are available at the time you are there.
